Development of a self-assessment app for MySkillFactory

In today's fast-paced digital world, professionals in the Learning & Development (L&D) industry need tools that can help them assess and improve their skills efficiently. MySkillFactory, an organization dedicated to enhancing the competencies of L&D professionals, recognized this need and sought to create an innovative web application for self-assessment. This case study outlines the journey from the initial concept to the successful launch of the application, highlighting the strategic steps and methodologies employed to achieve the project goals.

Situation

MySkillFactory identified a need for an innovative tool that would allow users to self-assess their skills and practices. The goal was to develop a web application that could help users evaluate their current competencies, visualize the results, and receive personalized recommendations for further development. MySkillFactory also aimed to use these evaluations to sell targeted training programs and one-on-one coaching sessions.

Task

As the lead project manager, I was responsible for transforming this idea into a fully functional web application. My tasks included:

  • Conceptualizing the application from scratch.

  • Selecting the appropriate technology and development agency.

  • Coordinating between the MySkillFactory co-founders (French-speaking) and the development team (English-speaking).

  • Ensuring the project was completed on time and within budget.

Action

Conceptualization:

  • Collaborated with MySkillFactory's co-founders to define the project scope, objectives, and requirements.

  • Created detailed project documentation, including user stories, wireframes, and mockups.

Technology Selection:

  • Considered existing platforms (Typeform, SurveyMonkey) and learning technologies (Scorm, Moodle ™, other LMS platforms)

  • Chose a no-code technology to facilitate rapid development and ensure flexibility.

  • Identified and partnered with a reputable no-code development agency.

Coordination:

  • Managed communications between the French-speaking co-founders and the English-speaking development team.

  • Held regular meetings to ensure alignment and address any issues promptly.

Project Management:

  • Supervised the development process, ensuring all milestones were met.

  • Conducted user testing sessions to gather feedback and make necessary improvements.

Result

  • Successfully launched the self-assessment web application on time and within budget.

  • The application allowed users to evaluate their skills, visualize results through spider graphs, and receive personalized recommendations.

  • MySkillFactory leveraged the assessments to offer targeted training programs and one-on-one coaching, leading to increased user engagement and satisfaction.

  • The project received positive feedback from L&D professionals, solidifying MySkillFactory's position as an innovative leader in the digital learning space.

Conclusion

The development of the self-assessment web application for MySkillFactory not only met the immediate needs of L&D professionals but also established a foundation for ongoing professional development. By selecting a no-code technology and effectively coordinating between multilingual teams, we were able to deliver a high-quality product that enhances user experience and provides valuable insights. This case study demonstrates the importance of strategic project management and innovative technology solutions in achieving successful digital transformation in the L&D sector.
